How can we help?

Everything about boards, sources, the fact check, credits and your account. Can’t find it? Write to us.

01

Getting started

Your account, your first board, and what you can put on it.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one. It’s the same account in the app and on this website: sign up once, log in anywhere. When you sign up, we send a code to your email to confirm the address.

How do I create my first board?

Tap + on your boards and give the board a name. You can also choose its language and set a PIN (see What does a PIN do?). Then add your first source.

What can I add to a board?

YouTube videos, short and long, plus photos and PDFs. Paste a YouTube link into the board, pick photos from your gallery or camera, or choose a PDF from your files.

Can I add things straight from YouTube or my gallery?

Yes, on Android. Tap Share in YouTube, Google Photos or your files and choose RealUp. Pick a board, or create a new one right there, and it’s saved.

RealUp reads it the next time you open the board, so you don’t have to wait in the share window. Boards where you’re a reader don’t show up there, because you can’t add to them.

Where does the summary come from?

RealUp reads every source on the board and writes one summary of all of them. It’s updated whenever you add a source, and it’s written in the board’s language.

The summary is yours: you can edit it like any other text. What you write yourself has no source, so it can’t be traced back to one.

Which languages does RealUp speak?

39. The app uses your phone’s language unless you pick another one in the settings. Every language is listed in its own name, so you’ll always find your way back.

02

Sources

Where a sentence came from, and how videos, photos and PDFs are read.

How do I find where a sentence came from?
  1. Mark a sentence in the summary and tap Source. You see which video it came from, the minute, and what was said, word for word.
  2. Tap that source. The transcript opens with the line highlighted.
  3. Tap the line. YouTube opens at that exact moment.

For photos and PDFs, the same tap takes you to the page in the original.

Why is there sometimes no minute?

RealUp only shows a minute when it finds the exact spot in the transcript. If it can’t, it shows nothing rather than a guess.

Why does the video start a few seconds early?

A transcript line starts where the subtitle starts, and by then the sentence is often half spoken. Starting three seconds early makes sure you hear it from the beginning.

A video won’t load. What now?

RealUp reads videos through their subtitles, including the ones YouTube creates automatically. A video without any subtitles can’t be read yet.

If YouTube is slow to answer, RealUp tries again by itself. If it still fails, remove the video and add it again.

How does RealUp read photos?

It copies the text in a photo word for word and describes what the picture shows. Photos you add together become one source with pages: Photo 1, Photo 2 and so on. Tap a photo source to see the original.

How are PDFs read, and are there limits?

PDFs with real text are read directly. Scanned pages without text are read by the AI, which uses credits.

A PDF can have up to 100 pages, 30 of them scanned, and up to 30 MB. One photo source holds up to 20 photos.

Who can see my photos and PDFs?

The originals are stored privately with your board, so the way back to the page always works. Only you and the people you share the board with can see them.

03

Fact check

What the five colours mean and why a sentence gets one.

How do I check a sentence?

Mark a passage in the summary and tap Fact check. RealUp splits it into sentences, up to eight at a time, searches the web for evidence and gives each one a colour with a short reason.

The whole story is in our post How the fact check works.

What do the colours mean?
  • Supported: checkable, and confirmed by sources RealUp found on the web.
  • Oversimplified: not wrong at its core, but cut down so much that it misleads.
  • Mixed evidence: the evidence disagrees, depends on the method, or nothing solid was found.
  • False: clearly doesn’t hold up.
  • Opinion: not a checkable fact, but a judgement, a recommendation or a guess about the future.
Why is my sentence yellow and not green?

Green needs a source. If RealUp can’t find solid evidence, the sentence turns yellow, and the result says that no source was found. If nothing usable comes back at all, it stays uncoloured.

Why did my colours disappear?

Each colour belongs to one exact sentence. When you edit the summary, the colours are removed so they can’t land on the wrong sentence. Just check the new text again.

What if a verdict looks wrong?

It can happen: the fact check is an AI with a web search. Every verdict comes with a reason and what it found, so you can judge for yourself. If something looks clearly off, tell us at realup.de@gmail.com.

Does every check use credits?

Yes, a few. That’s why RealUp only checks what you mark, and never a whole board on its own.

04

Boards & sharing

Working together, roles, PINs and exports.

How do I share a board?

Open the board, tap the three dots and choose Share. You get an invite code and a link. Whoever uses one of them joins your board.

What can owners, members and readers do?
  • Owner: everything, including inviting people and deleting the board.
  • Member: adds sources and works on the board with you.
  • Reader: reads and exports, but can’t change anything.
Who pays the credits on a shared board?

Whoever taps the button. If a member adds a video, the credits come from the member’s account, not the owner’s.

What does a PIN on a board do?

When you create a board, you can set a 4-digit PIN. The board then only opens after you enter it, which keeps it private on an unlocked phone. Once unlocked, it stays open until you restart the app.

The PIN is not encryption. And a board with a PIN can’t be joined through an invite link.

How do favourites work?

Mark a board as a favourite and it moves to the top of your boards.

Can I export a board?

Yes: as text to share anywhere, as a .txt or .md file, or as a designed PDF. Every export keeps the list of sources, marks what you wrote yourself, and says that the summary was written by AI. The PDF uses a few credits, the rest is free.

05

Credits

What they are, where they come from and when they reset.

What are credits?

Every summary, fact check and scanned page costs real money for the AI behind it. Credits keep that fair and visible: each action uses a few, and you always see how much you have left.

How do I get credits?

Every new account starts with a welcome gift. On top of that you get new credits every week. RealUp uses your welcome gift first, then your weekly credits.

Do unused credits carry over?

No. Your weekly credits reset every Monday, whether you used them or not.

Where do I see how many I have left?

In the app, as two bars: one for your welcome gift and one for this week.

Do I pay if something goes wrong?

No. If a summary or a check fails, you get the credits back.

Why do bigger boards use more credits?

Each time you add a source, RealUp rewrites the summary of the whole board, so it reads all sources again. The more sources a board has, the more an update uses. Tip: one board per topic keeps things lean.

Can I buy more credits?

Not yet. Paid plans with more credits come after launch.

06

Account & data

Password, profile, privacy and deleting your account.

I forgot my password.

Tap Forgot password? on the login screen. We send a code to your email. Enter it and choose a new password.

The code email didn’t arrive.

Check your spam folder and that your address is spelled right. A code can take a minute. Then tap Send a new code. Still nothing? Write to us at realup.de@gmail.com.

How do I change my name or profile picture?

On this website, click your profile picture in the top right corner and choose Edit profile. Changes show up in the app too, and the other way round.

Who can see my boards?

Only you, unless you share a board. Then the people you invite see it, in the role you gave them.

How do I delete my account?

In the app under your account, or on our Delete account page. Your boards and everything in them go with it, and so does your spot on the waitlist.

07

Waitlist

Your spot in line and how to move up.

How does the waitlist work?

Enter your email on the waitlist page and you’re on the list right away. No account, no password, no code. We email you your spot, and when RealUp launches on Android and iPhone, we let you know.

How do I move up?

Invite friends with your own link. You get it with a free RealUp account: create one with the same email and your spot stays. The more friends join with your link, the higher you climb. With the same number of friends, whoever joined first stays ahead.

When does a friend count?

As soon as they join the waitlist through your link. All they need to do is enter their email.

Will you fill my inbox?

No. You get one email with your spot, and we let you know when RealUp is out. Every email has a link to take your address off the list.
