Our story · · 3 min read
Every sentence should know where it came from.
We learn from videos, PDFs and screenshots all day. Almost none of it tells you where a claim came from. That gap is why RealUp exists.
You learn more in a week of scrolling than you think. A clip on the train. A video a friend drops in the group chat. A PDF from class. A screenshot someone swears is real.
The problem isn’t that there’s too little information. It’s that almost none of it shows its work. By the time a fact reaches you, it has lost its source. You remember that you heard it. You don’t remember where, or whether it held up.
One board per topic
RealUp starts with a simple habit: put everything on a topic in one place. A board for your exam. A board for the trip. A board for the thing everyone argued about at dinner.
You add YouTube videos, photos and PDFs, or share them straight into RealUp from YouTube, your gallery or your files. RealUp reads all of it and writes one summary of the whole board. The summary is yours: you can edit it like any other text.
Four taps to the source
A summary is only worth something if you can trust it. So every sentence in RealUp can show where it came from:
- Mark a sentence and tap Source. You see which video it came from, the minute, and what was said, word for word.
- Tap that source. The transcript opens and the line is highlighted.
- Tap the line. YouTube opens at that exact moment, three seconds early, so you catch the start of the sentence.
- Watch it yourself. Now you’ve really checked it.
For photos and PDFs, the same tap takes you to the page in the original. And if RealUp can’t find the exact spot, it doesn’t show a minute at all. Nothing is guessed.
See what holds up
Knowing where something came from is half the job. The other half is knowing whether it’s true. Mark a passage, tap Fact check, and every sentence gets one of five colours, from supported to false, with the reason right next to it. We explain exactly how in How the fact check works.
Better together
Research is rarely a solo job. Share a board with a code or a link and build it with friends, classmates or your team. There are three roles: owner, member and reader.
What RealUp is not
RealUp is not another feed. It doesn’t recommend videos and it doesn’t tell you what to think. It shows you where things came from and what the evidence says, and then it gets out of the way. The AI helps you read faster. You still decide.
Where we are
RealUp launches on Android and iPhone on the same day. Until then, we’re testing, fixing, and writing here about how it works. Join the waitlist and you’ll hear the moment it’s out.
